Why did we go Over the Edge for ALICE®?
We all know ALICE®.  More than 2 in 5 local households are ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed).  Our ALICE® neighbors work hard but still struggle to meet basic needs. ALICE® lives paycheck to paycheck, making tough choices each month between safe housing, food, childcare, medicine and other essentials. Just one emergency can cause a financial tailspin (injured and out of work? childcare closes? car breaks down?).

ALICE® is in nearly every workplace, classroom, and neighborhood.  UWLES and our partners work every day to help ALICE® and all neighbors access resources to help them move from barely surviving to thriving.  ALICE® lives on the edge, so we’re going Over the Edge for ALICE®!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who Can Rappel?

Almost anyone who has registered and raises $1,00 by May 8! Rappelers must weigh between 100 and 300 pounds to ensure safety while rappelling. All ages are welcome, however, minors must have a parent/guardian sign a consent form.

Is there a fundraising minimum I must reach to rappel?

$1,100 fundraising minimum for each person to rappel.

Is there a fundraising deadline?

The fundraising deadline for the Over the Edge event is April 24. This date allows organizers to finalize the rappelling schedule and confirm all participant time slots.

To reduce last-minute pressure and help ensure your spot is reversed, participants have the option to complete a Guarantor Form. By submitting this form, you secure your place in the event if you have not yet reached the full fundraising minimum. Any remaining balance needed to meet the $1,100 minimum fundraising requirement will be automatically charged on Monday, May 11.

This option allows you to continue fundraising after the scheduled deadline while still guaranteeing your opportunity to rappel.

Where do the funds go?

Funds raised through this event stay locally on the Lower Eastern Shore in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester counties helping our neighbors to move from surviving to thriving.

When will I rappel?

Rappelling will take place between 10am and 6pm based on the final number of rappelers. Final schedule will be provided 2-weeks prior to the event. The sooner you raise your minimum $1,100 - the sooner you can claim your preferred time slot. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule requirements.

I've never rappelled before. Can I participate?

Of course! You will be given a document on what to expect on event day - this will tell you everything you need to know about the process!

Can I wear a costume?

Costumes are allowed. Every attempt will be made to fit costumes around harnesses and helmets. It is ultimately the decision of the Site Safety Supervisor. Stringy, loose, excessive costumes must be avoided. Head pieces that will not accommodate a helmet or obscure the vision are not allowed.
